More than 150 cave rescuers from several countries were directly involved in the cave rescue operation that successfully brought the casualty out of Morca Cave last night. Further European rescue organisations were on standby, ready to deploy immediately if needed.

The casualty is now in hospital for medical examination and care. He appears remarkably well given the ordeal experienced over many days.

A group of cave rescuers remained underground overnight to remove ropes and rescue equipment. We are delighted to report that those cave rescuers have all now exited the cave safely.
