A German caver passed away during an international caving tour in Austria

During a cave exploration tour from 2016-02-26 to -28 in ‘Hirlatzhöhle’/Austria a German caver (54) died.

In the early Sunday morning hours he suddenly collapsed with a cardiac arrest.

The four colleagues started with revitalization measures and alerted cave and mountain rescue. The doctor arrived at 13:00 at the casualty but could only pronounce him dead. About 40 cave rescuers, mountain rescuers and members of the mountain police have been involved.

The operation ended at 20:39. The ‘Hirlatzhöhle’ is with more 100 km and 1000m depth the 3rd longest cave in Austria.
