About the Organization
The Mountain Rescue Service Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina (GSSuBiH) is the umbrella organization that unites, coordinates, and strengthens all local and regional mountain rescue units across the country. Its primary mission is search and rescue operations in mountainous, hard-to-reach, and extreme environments, as well as response during natural and other disasters.
GSSuBiH is a voluntary, non-profit organization made up of specially trained rescuers – mountaineers, alpinists, speleologists, medical professionals, and other experts. All members undergo continuous training and professional development in mountain and cave rescue techniques, water and underwater operations, extreme condition operations, emergency medical response, and the use of advanced technical equipment.
In addition to operational activities, the Association is actively involved in public education, promoting safety in nature, and providing technical support for the organization of mountaineering, sports, and tourism events.
Internationally, GSSuBiH is a full member of ICAR (International Commission for Alpine Rescue), which enables cooperation and knowledge exchange with the world’s leading rescue organizations. It is also a member of ECRA (European Cave Rescue Association), providing access to the latest cave rescue techniques, protocols, and participation in international speleological missions and exercises.
As a respected organization both nationally and internationally, GSSuBiH plays a vital role in the protection and rescue system of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
