About the Organization
The Cave Diver and Nature Conservation Society (Barlangkutató Búvár és Természetvédő Társaság – BBTT) was formalised in 2008 by a dedicated team of divers to push the limits of high-level cave diving and underwater research.
The aim of the association is to scientifically explore caves, cave dive, protect the environment and natural values, surface and underground karst phenomena, and preserve the natural heritage. This involves exploratory and scientific cave research, nature preservation, and cave diving in Hungary and abroad in close cooperation with local authorities, national parks, local governments, and other organisations.
On a practical level, the BBTT conducts active, ongoing fieldwork at major Hungarian underwater sites – including the Molnár János Cave, the Hévíz thermal spring, and the Tapolca lake cave system. Their regular activities include discovering new passages, installing and maintaining dive lines, monitoring water quality, and collecting continuous survey data to build comprehensive 3D cave maps.
